Inside The $15 Million Learjet 60XR Private Jet
0:00 - Intro
This is the Learjet 60 XR, a testament to over four decades of aviation excellence. Here is everything you need to know about the Learjet 60 XR.
0:53 - Cabin
The Learjet 60XR boasts a cabin that is a significant upgrade from its predecessors. Changes include more curvaceous cabinetry, single-seat structure and upholstery, a cleaner-looking headliner with recessed air gaspers, LED lighting, more illuminating window surrounds, and a redesigned lavatory with a larger vanity cabinet. Customers can now choose from five basic seven- and eight-seat floor plans and specify a larger galley and a three-place divan in addition to four slide/swivel single executive seats arranged in a "club 4" configuration.
The Bombardier Learjet 60XR is designed to accommodate up to nine passengers, counting the belted potty. Passengers are greeted with comfortable club seating arrangements, as well as retractable worktables that are strategically placed, and ample legroom.
The new galley is the cabin's most impressive monument and it has been relocated to the left side of the cabin next to the passenger door. Overall, interior cabin noise has been reduced by "several" decibels over the Learjet 60, according to the company.
The Bombardier Learjet 60XR includes a closet with 24 cubic feet or 680 liters of storage, with an equal amount in the baggage compartment near the restroom.
Complementing the physical features is the cabin management system, which has fewer and more user-friendly menus than the Learjet 60.
3:58 - Cockpit
Now, let’s talk about the Learjet 60 XR cockpit. To enhance safety, performance, and pilot operation, the Bombardier Learjet 60XR’s avionics suite was upgraded from the Learjet 60 model to a Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 suite, replacing the Pro Line 4.
The Pro Line 21 is a fully integrative avionics system with key upgrades, including decreased weight, a 75% larger display area featuring four 8 x 10-inch screens, higher reliability, and more capabilities. The Flight Management Systems interface includes electronic charting features and makes operating the Learjet 60XR easier and more efficient.
Standard pilot and copilot primary flight displays are paired with two central multi-function displays.
Automated maintenance diagnostics and electronic checklist functions are standard on the Learjet 60XR.
The engines are FADEC-controlled, for more precise power settings and lower pilot workload. An automatic power reserve feature kicks in should an engine fail on takeoff; this boosts the operating engine’s power and permits single-engine climb rates in the 2,000-plus-fpm range. The pressurization system has a whopping 9.4-psi maximum pressure differential, which means an 8,000-foot cabin at 51,000 feet.
6:01 - Engine, Performance Specs, and Flying Experience
Now, let’s talk about the engine, performance specifications, and how it flies.
The Learjet 60XR is powered by two Pratt & Whitney 305A engines, each producing 4,600 pounds of thrust, which are managed by the FADEC. The full-fuel payload is 660 pounds or 300 kilograms. The aircraft requires 5,450 feet or 1,660 meters of runway to take off at sea level on a standard day. The aircraft also features an Automatic Power Reserve, which can be both pilot-controlled and automatically activated after an engine failure.
At FL 410, the aircraft can cruise between 430 and 450 knots, consuming only 1,100 pounds of fuel per hour.
With its ability to climb at a rate per minute of 6,000 feet or 1,830 meters, the 60XR outpaces other midsize jets in its ascent. Furthermore, its maximum cruise speed stands at 466 knots or Mach 0.81, a maximum range of 2,450 nautical miles, which is 2,820 miles or 4,540 kilometers, and it can soar to a certified flight ceiling of 51,000 feet or 15,550 meters.
The Learjet 60 XR is a dream to handle. Its wing, which has been meticulously refined over the decades, offers stability and predictability at all airspeeds. The landing distance is 3,420 feet or 1,040 meters. After a smooth landing, shutting down the engines is a breeze, thanks to the FADEC system.
9:35 - Purchase and Charter Price
The base Learjet 60 XR purchase price is $15 million before options, $3 million to $6 million for a used model, and the Learjet 60 XR charter price is estimated at $5,000 to $8,000 per hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.
9:56 - Operating Cost
While the annual fixed cost is roughly $400,000 to $600,000, the average hourly operating cost is estimated at $2,500 to $4,000.
