At the very entrance to the city of Stip, on its southern side, there is the oldest settlement in Stip, the settlement Novo Selo. A place from where Stip itself began to develop, a settlement with over 700 years of history and tradition.
Today Novo Selo is a suburb of the city of Stip. The village is located on both sides of Bregalnica and most of it is on the left side. Immediately above Novo Selo rises the Isar hill, on which the famous Stip fortress, the Isar, is built.
One street, several alleys, about 60 houses, six churches, more than 50 historical figures from the recent Macedonian history, a place where the city of Stip started to grow and develop.
Novo Selo is one of the oldest settlements in Stip. It is assumed that Novo Selo existed as a separate settlement before the XIII century, and this is evidenced by the numerous churches from that period, including the church of St. Spas, which is the oldest church in the vicinity of Stip. Among the first written documents is the census from 1519, according to which about 21 families lived in Novo Selo at that time.
Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God is the main church in Novo Selo, Stip. The construction of the church began in 1836 and was completed in 1850. In the secret chambers the comites hid in the walls, and through the tunnel under the Episcopal throne they passed to the village houses. A place where Goce Delchev himself, often persecuted by the Turkish authorities, often hid. The church is a cultural monument protected by law.
The old school in Novo Selo which is next to the church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God, in which in the period from 1894-1896 the great Macedonian revolutionary and fighter for free and independent Macedonia - Goce Delchev taught. In the 19th century, Novo Selo played an important role in awakening national consciousness and the fight against Turkish slavery, especially with the arrival of Damjan Gruev and Goce Delchev, who worked as teachers in Novo Selo.
The high school building has been reconstructed and today is a modern higher scientific institution and the seat of the Rectorate of the University of Stip "Goce Delchev".
The famous words of the great Macedonian revolutionary will echo forever, who on one occasion said - "I understand the world only as a field for cultural competition of nations"
It is worth noting that during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, out of a total of 17,000 gendarmes, as many as 12,000 of the kingdom's police forces were stationed in this rebellious revolutionary patriotic region.
On the other side of Bregalnica are the thermal springs L'Gi, an inexhaustible thermal spring with water temperature up to 62 degrees Celsius.
Todor Alexandrov was born in Novo Selo, a duke and one of the leaders of VMRO. He renewed the organization under the name VMRO, strengthened it in the Pirin part of Macedonia and is a signatory of the May Manifesto. Todor Alexandrov's birth house was burnt down by the Ottomans, and a memorial plaque was erected just above it during the Second World War.
Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia gg Mihail, the fourth archbishop of the Macedonian Orthodox Church, was born in Novo Selo. The only spiritual leader who was offered the position of President of the Republic of Macedonia.
Each stone in Novo Selo hides its own history, its own story and its own meaning. Every part of Novo Selo in Stip testifies to a historical period and to prominent personalities and events related to the history of Macedonia. Starting from familiar
