I have a lot of used telecaster pickups laying around the shop that I do not know if they are good or bad. Lately I have purchased used pickups and have soldered them into the guitar to only find that one was not working.
I decided to make a simple box that would allow me to test the pickups I have in my shop or when I am installing them in the guitar without soldering.
The box is just a modern Telecaster wiring circuit attached to a terminal block that allows you to attach your pickups quickly without soldering. You can perform one test by plugging the box into an amp and tapping the poles. The second test is to use a multi-meter to measure pickup resistance against what the pickup maker says they should measure.
One last thing the box can help with is troubleshooting problems in your tele. By testing the pickups, you can tell quickly whether the pickups or the wiring harness are causing the problem in your guitar.
