Continuing with my series on tendon issues around the elbow, here is another common issue that many people have to deal with. It is “golfer’s elbow,” also known as medial epicondylitis or “thrower’s elbow.” This is not as common as tennis elbow (you can see my video on that topic if you would like), being outnumbered by a ratio of probably closer to 7:1. As many of you have seen my tennis elbow video know, these names do not quite grasp what is going on, and you certainly do not need to play golf to have “golfer’s elbow.”
This issue is a nuisance. It takes a long time to get better and it affects a lot of the activities you may do with your arm. You will notice it particularly with gripping and lifting. It will also be painful with throwing.
This video reviews the symptoms, causes, anatomy, and treatment of this common arm issue.
There are a few other issues that can look like golfer's elbow, so it is important to see a specialist. Those problems include cubital tunnel syndrome (the ulnar nerve or "funny bone" is angry at the elbow) or a ulnar collateral ligament injury.
