Independent Taipei mayoral candidate Ko Wen-je edged out DPP Legislator Yao Wen-chih in a public opinion poll conducted on Thursday evening. Ko is now in position to become the main opposition nominee in the Taipei race, pending approval from the party's Central Executive Committee. Yao Wen-chih shakes Ko Wen-je's hand while the convener of a reconciliation task force looks on. The two candidates are calling for a truce as results of a public opinion poll are released following months of intense campaigning. According to sources, in a poll where each candidate was pitted against KMT nominee Sean Lien, Ko received 43 percent support against Lien's 28 percent support.
