On July 24, 2021, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, CA, put on a photographer's tour which consisted of dinner, a ride on the train behind historic Sierra No. 28, a 2-8-0 that earned its keep on the Sierra when it was one of the area's key transportation modes, and a few other rail-related goodies.
The train ride was complete with a few photo run-by locations, and what made it even more unusual is that the locomotive was turned to face westward. Locomotives on this railroad face east, as a rule, so having the locomotive turned the other way around made for some very rare photo opportunities!
The train made its typical run out to Rock Siding, but also made photo run-by stops at Quartz, Rogers Cut, and Rock Siding. The late afternoon sun made the shot at Quartz alone worth the trip!
When the train arrived back at Jamestown, the attendees were treated to a roundhouse tour, blacksmithing demonstration, shop tour, a look at the storage tracks that are normally off limits to visitors, and a chance to see offices and a warehouse that are also normally off limits to guests.
The evening was capped off by a night photo shoot, where No. 28 was staged on the whisker track at the roundhouse with just enough light on it to make for some dramatic shots! Super huge thanks to Railtown 1897, and especially to Mike Ninneman, who invited TSG Multimedia as his guest for the event.
