The CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development (PPD) invites you to join a virtual public event to discuss the future of work in the Mekong Subregion.
The Mekong Subregion has experienced significant economic growth over the last decades through trade liberalization, foreign investment, and membership in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). However, the Covid-19 pandemic has compounded the challenges of poor infrastructure, quality education, and labor and human rights which threaten its future growth prospects.
In 2020, PPD undertook a study that identified the main long-term challenges and drivers impacting the subregion’s labor markets and proposed actions to prepare these economies for the changes ahead, with a particular focus on Myanmar and Cambodia. The event speakers will discuss the medium-term economic outlook in the subregion and policies that can be taken to improve economic competitiveness and prepare youth for the demands of the labor market.
