Davaar Island and Lighthouse | Davaar Island ~Mull of kintyre,Argyll and Bute, Scotland
Island Davaar or Davaar Island is located at the mouth of Campbeltown Loch off the east coast of Kintyre, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is a tidal island, linked to the mainland by a natural shingle causeway called the Doìrlinn near Campbeltown at low tide. The crossing can be made in around 40 minutes
Davaar Island is home to 4 secluded and completely unique holiday cottages/cabins. Below you can find out more about our two self-catering holiday cottages and the two luxury wood cabins – Minke and Barnacle. We operate a minimum 3 night stay in each cottage and a minimum 2 night stay in the CABINS
Davaar Lighthouse is located at the entrance of Campbeltown.
The Kintyre peninsula, 40 miles long and 8 miles wide, looks out along its western side towards the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland. Its name is derived from the Gaelic “ceann – tire”, meaning land’s end. About a quarter of the way up the eastern side, Davaar island is located at the entrance to Campbeltown Loch. The loch leads to the popular sailing and fishing centre of Campbeltown, and boats cross to Ireland from the sheltered harbour in the summer.
At low tide, Davaar is connected to the mainland by the Dhorlin, a shingle bank on the southern Loch entrance. At high tide, the island is completely cut off. The island also marks the southern entrance of Kilbrannan Sound, the stretch of water separating Kintyre and the Island of Arran.
Once the home of the Principal Lighthouse Keeper on Davaar Island, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage has been converted into a luxury 2 bedroom cottage. Located in one of the most secluded parts of Scotland, Davaar Island provides a spectacular setting for a tranquil rural retreat.
The cosy and welcoming interior combined with sweeping ocean views makes the cottage a perfect option for those looking for a getaway completely removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Spend your days exploring the island before curling up in the reading room or in front of the log burning stove with a complimentary gin or whisky.
The cosy cottage makes fantastic accommodation at any time of year thanks to the top-of-the-range insulation and heating throughout. To keep you snug during the colder months, you’ll be provided with an endless supply of wood for the log burning stove and there’s an electric blankets for all of the beds.
The kitchen and living room are open plan creating a relaxed space to enjoy evenings in with delicious food and a favourite film on the TV. There’s also a study on the ground floor complete with a beautiful bureau, and a reading area, perfect for lazy afternoons with a good book.
