STORYLINE:
A drive along the main highway connecting Turkey with Aleppo, littered with government tanks, civilian vehicles and an ambulance, is a grim reminder that what started as a popular uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime in March last year has turned into a brutal war in Syria.
With hundreds injured, maimed and killed in the past 19 months, there are growing fears the next casualty of war will be the co-existence of different communities in Syria.
The violent struggle between government forces and rebels has led to an increased divide between the people of Syria, threatening to plunge the country into sectarian violence that could tear it apart.
Two villages, Zahraa and Nubl, have been under siege since Sunni rebels in July drove out government forces from the area.
