Five men accused of masterminding the September 11, 2001, attacks will be formally charged in front of a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay.
It will be the first chance the men have had to enter pleas since their trial was suspended three years ago.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-defendants are to be arraigned on Saturday on charges that include 2,976 counts of murder, one for each person killed after hijacked planes struck New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
All five defendants face the death penalty.
