Edward G. Robinson's performance as the tough-minded, capable Captain Barnaby of the Los Angeles Police Department is the highlight of "Vice Squad", a 1953 low budget black and white film directed by Arnold Laven. Robinson's career had been in decline due to Congressional investigations of communist influence in film. Robinson was cleared but was effectively "graylisted" in Hollywood for several years. He was reduced to accepting roles in minor films such as "Vice Squad". Robinson's performance helps make a success of this modest film. .
