Roly, currently chief executive of the British Library, joined the BBC as a general trainee straight from university. He worked as a producer in Music and Arts, pioneering The Late Show and Later with Jools Holland. He became Controller of BBC2 then went on to found the emerging digital channels such as UKTV. Roly describes the gradual changes - both good and bad - in the rapidly changing ecology of broadcasting up to the present day and also the work done to make BBC archive assets increasingly accessible in a new digital world. He was knighted in the New Year’s Honours
