Recorded on Thursday 3 February 2022, as part of the Royal Society of Medicine's COVID-19 Series.
In this episode of the COVID-19 Series we welcome Sir Jeremy Farrar, Wellcome Trust Director and infectious disease researcher, to discuss the UK’s need to prepare for Covid-19 moving from pandemic to endemic, the role of next generation vaccines, and the importance of global vaccine access in reducing the risk of new variants after Omicron.
From the very start of the pandemic, the former Professor of Tropical Medicine at Oxford University was a key voice on SAGE, before choosing to leave the group in October 2021. He is now focusing on the Wellcome’s work supporting the international research effort to end the pandemic, and planning for the inevitable infectious disease threats of the future.
Sir Jeremy is interviewed by Dr Joanne Liu, Professor of Clinical Medicine at McGill University, Montreal and the previous International President of Médecins sans Frontières.
The RSM COVID-19 Series is for health professionals, by health professionals; a series of talks dedicated to give healthcare workers on the frontline, regular and easy-to-access updates from healthcare leaders on COVID-19.
