(6 May 1979) It is only the second time the European sidecar motorcross championships have been staged on the Tarare circuit near Lyon in France. In all, 18 countries including France, Britain and the Soviet Union take part in the two day event organised by the Baldago motorclub. Racing has been held at Tarare for forty three years and the track is considered one of the finest in the sport and also one of the most testing. The euro-championship is won by the Belgium team driven by Van Bellinghen with Raf d'Hollander passenger, second for Holland is Tom van Heugten and Frits Kiggen. Third place goes to the British pair of Nick Thompson and Gary Withers. With a dry and dusty track, conditions are not exactly easy.
