I decided to change the preamp and pickup in this Jazz bass and did a quick A/B test recording for myself. Thought I'd post it in case it was of interest to anyone else.
This isn't intended as comprehensive demo, but hope someone finds it of some interest anyhow.
Bass is a 1990 Fender Jazz bass, with a Badass II bridge and Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings.
First half of clip has the bass with an EMG J set pickups and East J-Retro 01 preamp, the second half with Bartolini 9CBJS pickups and the Sadowsky 3 knob preamp.
The preamp settings are pickups pan to the centre and a moderate bass and treble boost. Nothing scientific going on, just set to my own taste.
Both basses were recorded though an Origins Effect Cali 76 compact bass compressor then DI'd into a Focusrite scarlet interface into Logic. No other processing.
The part is one I pinched from Scotts Bass Lesson, because it seemed like a good test piece.
