Soil Fungi time lapse of Mucor species, a common inhabitant of the soil. Here we see the sporulation ie the fruiting bodies, those small spherical globules, called sporangia.
We can not see the fungus itself, it is hidden within the soil. When a good food source is encountered (anything organic) this saprophytic fungus (as opposed to parasitic) will thrive and depending on environmental conditions, if they are just right, such as humidity and temperature, the fungus will produce fruiting bodies. Although we can't see them at this low magnification, the sporangia contain thousands of microscopic spores.
