Agartala, August 30: Tripura's sports pride, 20-year-old judoka Asmita Dey, has once again elevated the state's athletic reputation by clinching a gold medal at the Junior National Judo Championship 2023-24.
The championship, held at New Delhi's LG Complex, KD Yadav Indoor Stadium on August 29, witnessed Asmita's outstanding performance as she executed precise wazari (10 points) and ippon (100 points) moves against her opponent, Manika Chowdhury, in the final of the 48-kg category. Notably, she also triumphed over Tannu Maan in the semi-finals.
Asmita's recent victory adds to her growing accolades. On July 23, she emerged victorious with a gold medal at the esteemed Junior Asia Cup Judo Championship held in Macau, China. Her remarkable journey includes securing a silver medal at the Asian Open 2023 in Kuwait City and a bronze in the Asian Junior Championships 2022.
Asmita Dey's consistent success continues to shine a bright spotlight on Tripura's flourishing sporting landscape. Her achievements underscore her dedication and exceptional talent, making her a source of pride for the state and a role model for aspiring athletes.
