The first thing we’ll cover is what everyone wants to hear.
Your range. In “Wind” RWD spec you can max out range at 310 miles, which is 7 more than claimed by Hyundai - you can thanks the square styling and aero for that
However, what we have here is the GT-Line with dual motor AWD
That extra motor gives you more power but it also saps range to 274 miles, which again is better than the 257 we got in the Htrac AWD from the Hyundai
Of course be aware that heavy use of the climate controls will effect your range, but you will get a heat pump and also a live readout of just how MUCH it will effect, unlike what we saw in the F150 Lightning last week.
Then this was the part of the Ioniq5 video where I talked at you about regen for like 40 minutes.
I’ll keep it simple here: it’s the same as the Hyundai so you have level 1,2,3, max, and iPedal in order from least to most regen
For more in-depth check out the Hyundai video - link in description
However, there’s some subtle differences - the EV6 seems to be a touch more aggressive on regen and is a little more challenging to drive smoothly
I will just mention quickly, that in general I hate the 1-pedal driving, it’s a personal preference thing, but you can get used to it. My favorite setting was level 1 as it’s the most natural experience to an ICE car with some mild engine braking
But let’s go back to power because we didn’t cover that enough
All EVs, at their core, are kinda the same, and these twins more so than most
You get the 77.4Kw battery and dual motor which gives you 320 hp and 446 lbft
That hp number is the same from the hyundai, but the hyundai makes 448 lbft - not a difference you’d notice behind the wheel, but just a fun fact
0-60 is done in 4.6 seconds, which in Kia’s propaganda packet they furnish me with, want me to know without a shadow of a doubt that they’re quicker to 60 than a Porsche Cayenne Coupe
Ok, so far we’ve talked a lot about how SIMILAR this is to the Hyundai sister, but as the Kia sibling this is intended to be more “sporty” and more “exciting”...so is it?
Well, yes and no. It’s still a very similar experience behind the wheel
The steering is a little heftier and more engaging
The suspension is a little firmer
And the way the cockpit is designed puts me more in the “sportscar” mentality
However, it’s not “sportscar” enough to me to justify the slightly harsher ride and the significantly more cramped feeling interior
I would t say it’s uncomfortable, but I can’t wear a hat in this thing without hitting the top nub on the roof, even with the seat at its lowest setting. Also, for what this vehicle is, a compact or mid-size EV SUV, I’m not taking it to a track ever so I’d be fine with the slightly softer ride from the Hyundai
So what it results in behind the wheel is something that’s
Quicker than you were your first time
Smoother than hot butter
And Quieter than Paolo when I tell him that, no the iPhone camera isn’t better than my sony
All together, behind the wheel, it’s a Pretty nice car, and it’s still a better solution to get you from A to B
It’s a great car, and so is its sister, the Ioniq5, but let’s step outside where the similarities aren’t so glaring
Sunroof opens here, which you don’t get in Ioniq5
But it’s not even kinda as big as the hyundai
Smaller trunk than MachE, Model Y, and Ioniq 5
Roof’s fault
More storage under floor
Has smart park
Two tone interior (black & white)
It’s more typical interior design with the center console
Feels more “sportscar”
Power button
Drive modes
Heated and cooled seat heated wheel
Under center console keeps the footwells from connecting
Speaker covers look cool
Very Cadillac vibe from the cluster and infotainment
2 12 inch screens
NOT wireless car play (wack)
Cluster graphics looks essentially the same
Funky design on dash
360 camera
Augmented reality (color doesn’t match)
64 color ambient light
Climate controls are a weird toggle function
Paolo and I were panicking that we were stupid and couldnt figure it out
Offers a number of “propulsion” sounds
Quiet mode
Sounds of nature?
HDAS?
Wireless charger
AR HUD
Rear seat is big, but not as big as Hyundai
Totally flat floor
Chargers on the front seats
Vents on the pillars
Weird cuz center console doesnt move
Heated rear seats on the GT AWD
Headroom
