Have a old and/or leaking angle stop shut off valve in the bathroom?

In this video, I'll be showing you how to replace an angle stop in the bathroom, specifically at the toilet. While I'm working on the toilet in this video, the same process would apply for shut off valves for your bathroom or kitchen faucets.

If you're new to plumbing, the first installation of these may be a bit intimidating but they are quite easy to replace after you get a hang of it. And it will save you a lot of money on plumbing costs. I recommend using a quarter-turn angle stop because these are much easier to shut off than a full turn, they also seem to last a bit longer.

Here are the steps to removing the old one and putting on the new one:

1. Shut off your water to your house! Yes, if you take this off when the water is on, you'll have a geyser at the pipe.
2. Place a bucket or bowl under the shut off valve.
3. Disconnect your supply lines connected to the angle stop.
4. Unthread the old valve from the main nut. You'll need two wrenches, one to hold the big hex nut and the other to turn the valve body to unthread it.
5. With the valve uninstalled, push the hex nut a bit back to expose the compression fitting.
6. The easiest way to remove this part is with compression sleeve removal tool like this one: [ Ссылка ]
7. Remove the compression sleeve and the hex nut thereafter.
8. Clean the copper pipe with some steel wool and a cloth.
9. Slide the new hex nut on and the compression sleeve over that.
10. Push the valve up to the end of the copper pipe and hand-tighen the hex nut to the valve.
11. Use two wrenches, one to hold the valve steady and the other to rotate the large hex nut so that the compression sleeve compresses down and creates a water tight seal on the copper pipe.
12. Open the water main again and check for leaks. If it's leaking, you'll need to tighten down the valve more.
13. Attach the supply lines and check for leaks.

There you have it, you've removed and replaced your old shut off valve!
