A lot of the problems we encounter in applying a smooth finish to walls is that most walls are not completely smooth and/or have a lot of defects that become more noticeable with a shiny or polished finish. One way to overcome this is to apply a physical texture in uniform patches that will disguise and camouflage imperfections.
Other terms for this are “Skip Trowel, Knockdown, Sponge trowel knockdown, Backfill, etc. You create your own visual texture with a tool that will eliminate problems with achieving a perfectly smooth surface.
