You may be struggling with one of the most important shots in tennis, the defensive forehand, yet most tennis players practice it. In this tennis lesson, Jeff Salzenstein reveals two simple keys to easily handle the fast and low tennis balls coming to your forehand. Jeff demonstrates how to practice both concepts effectively during this online tennis lesson. These are the secret keys to accelerate your results, have more fun on the tennis court, and play more like the pros.
Chapters:
0:00 Introduction
3:20 Tennis Forehand Finish
7:13 Tennis Forehand Footwork
Jeff wants you to focus on your follow through at the end of your forehand swing. The key for handling this fast ball successfully is to stop your finish sooner and your racquet in front of your body. The faster the ball comes, the shorter the follow through. Pretend that you’re protecting yourself from getting hit with your tennis racquet. On the other hand, the slower the ball comes, the longer you can follow through.
It will really depend on how the ball comes back to you. If the ball comes to the side of you after serving, step out ,load your outside leg as you shuffle, and hold at the end. On the contrary, you want to step back and rotate after hitting the ball when it comes fast, low, and straight at you after the serve. If you practice both footwork patterns consistently, you’re going to become a better tennis player.
Finally, the consistency on your tennis forehand follow through and footwork matters. Both concepts are absolutely critical to your success on the tennis court.
