Today we have a very young 68y gentleman, he is a retired salesman from the blood banking industry who is also an avid golfer. He currently has severe back pain which limits him from walking more than a quarter of a mile, playing golf, and lots of other daily activities that he loves. He has tried a number of non-operative treatments, none of which have been successful so we have decided to proceed with surgery. Looking closely at L5-S1 his disc is collapsed and his disc bone has slipped forward which we call spondylolisthesis. When he lays down the spondylolisthesis shifts back into place so it is moving back and forth as he moves around. Along with this there is narrowing of the foramen where the nerve comes out due to the malalignment, the disc bulge and collapsed disc space. After much deliberation we have decided to treat this via the prefect MISS (minimally invasive spine surgery) TLIF Technique utilizing computer assisted navigation with my A Team!! Wishing him all of the best as he recovers and gets back on the road to doing things he loves like golf...because we all love golf!!
