SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction) is a condition in which the bones in the front of the pelvis separate and cause pain during pregnancy. SPD is also known as PGP or Pelvic Girdle Pain. Common symptoms include pain with walking, doing the stairs, getting in or out of bed or the car and difficulty standing on one leg, as when getting dressed.
Doing some gentle core strengthening for the transverse abdominus, pelvic floor and hips can help alleviate symptoms during pregnancy and help with recovery postpartum. Do these exercises to tolerance while pregnant and in the postpartum period for relief.
