Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the UWS Wedge Series truck bed tool chest. This is going to be a great way to keep all of your tools or whatever other belongings you might have secure and out of the weather. I will say, probably my favorite thing about this tool chest is that it's going to sit flush or level with the edge of your bed. It's not going to be all that noticeable and it's going to be a lot easier to maintain that factory look, as opposed to some of the other types of toolboxes that sit on your bed rails, and those are a whole lot more noticeable whenever you're going down the road. What's nice about this box is it's not going to take up a whole bunch of room in the bed of your truck, but it's still going to give you plenty of space. To open it up, you'll grab your stainless steel handles.
The lid is actually spring-loaded so it'll go up nice and smooth on its own. We're going to have plenty of room to fit whatever equipment and tools that we need inside. The inside diameter is going to be 10.4 cubic feet. The gas struts that actually assist our lid up, whenever you go to close it, it's going to be nice too because they're actually going to put a little bit of tension on that lid. To me it just feels more reliable and robust as opposed to not having anything there and go to slam the lid and it just comes flying down. Once you do close it, it feels like it's going to secure that lid a little bit better too because the struts are still going to put some tension on it and just really keep it down closed in place. Now even though the lid does have a nice tight fit, UWS did go the extra mile and put some foam around the edges.
That's really going to help keep all that moisture, dirt and debris outside of the toolbox. The box is going to have a gloss black powder coat finish. With this finish, it should blend in and match really nice with just about any truck. Since it is powder-coated, this finish should last and stay in good shape for a long time. But, a few years down the road, if it does happen to get scratched up or banged up, which is to be expected from a tool chest, it is going to be really easy to find some touchup paint and redo the finish if that's what you'd like to do.One of the things that really separates this box from many of the others is that it's going to be notched. What this does is utilizes all of the space that would otherwise be unused.
Here's the edge of our lid. A few inches down you can see our box continues on and goes underneath the header here on our truck. What this allows us to do is still open our lid but still use all that space. The lid opens up and we'll have all this extra space on the inside. Many of the other boxes that are just flat, what you have to do to open the lid is mount the box a little further from the bulkhead of your truck bed here.
That way, it'll have the room it needs to open up. But this one, it simply slides all the way to the front your bed, still gives you all that space and allows you to open up the lid nice and easily. Each end of the box is also going to be wedged so it's going to angle in like this. What this is really for is to clear some trucks' wheel wells because every truck and setup is going to be a little bit different. Because of this design, you're not going to interfere with the wheel wells if that's where you want to place the box. In our case, that really doesn't affect it, but I still kind of like this design because what it's going to do is give you some space to still reach down and grab your tow hook and secure any tie downs if you need to. With the boxes that come all the way up over the bed rails, you're more or less going to lose that anchor point. The lid's also made from aluminum, but it's going to be set up a little bit different. There's going to be two panels more or less. We have a panel on here and the top of it. It's going to be pretty thick, I'd say about that thick. It's actually going to be foam filled, so you're not going to have to worry about it warping or anything like that. It's really solid. I've tried to pry each which way and it's not hardly even budging at all. If it was just a plain sheet of aluminum, I could see that really giving you some trouble over time trying to get it open and closed and having to worry about it warping or getting dented. We're also going to be able to lock our box. Once you close it, grab your key, twist it, you won't be able to open up the lid. Now it's not bulletproof in my opinion. If someone really wanted to get inside of here they could, but it's enough to keep
