On June 26, 2019, COL E.J. Irvin, II assumed command of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. As part of “America’s Guard of Honor,” the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade is a force of professional Paratroopers who are ready at a moment’s notice to protect the interests of our nation as the “Wings of the Airborne.”
On October 1, 2019, the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade assumed responsibility as the Immediate Response Force. This rapid reaction force is capable of deploying worldwide within 18 hours of notification. A multi-function Aviation Task Force from the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade tested this capability in the Spring of 2020 when it deployed to the Middle East in response to Iranian aggression.
The 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade deployed TF Mustang to support Combined Joint Operations within the Horn of Africa throughout the Spring of 2020. This TF assisted with civil and military operations with a focus on enabling the region to sustain long-term stability and security.
From January 2021 through May 2021, the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade deployed multiple Task Forces to the CENTCOM area of responsibility. TF Wolfpack deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and TF Pegasus deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel. Upon the completion of the retrograde, TF Pegasus redeployed leaving a portion of TF Talon postured in Kuwait, for a Contingency Response Force, and a portion in Kabul supporting the Diplomatic Assurance Package-Afghanistan.
COL Jennifer Mykins will assume command of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade on June 22, 2021.
