Calton Hill in Edinburgh is located just 5-10 minutes walk from a staircase at Regent Road, not far from the east end of Princes Street. Calton Hill is the place to go for fantastic views of the city, especially at dusk. Highlights include the City Observatory (1818), Old Observatory House, the Nelson Monument (which you can climb), the National Monument (an unfinished replica of the Parthenon, Greece) and the Dugald Stewart Monument. The Observatory site is now home to the Collective Contemporary Art Gallery, 'The Lookout' restaurant, a kiosk selling drinks, coffee n' snacks and toilets. If you're visiting Edinburgh Calton Hill is definitely a 'must see' :-)
