as someone who thinks quite often about writing characters who are "compelling"—characters who drive the story and make it worth picking up in the first place, characters who stick in readers' craws like molasses—I wanted to make a quick video talking about some of the things I believe make characters interesting.
character is so crucial to story, and vice versa, and while there is no singular key formula to making a character universally appealing, there are definitely some ways I've noticed that make them compellingly readable.
of course, like always, prescriptivist writing advice is silly—these are just my thoughts, and you can take them or leave them as you like!
