Swissy Missy, as the title would imply is composed in the intricate, harmonized line style of the Swiss polkas. Roger Bright adapted this to the American style on his recordings in the 1960s. As a contemporary of Verne Meisner (both recorded on Cuca Records and later on Roger's label- Bright Productions, and were from the same region of Wisconsin) they undoubtedly influenced each other musically. I hadn't seriously worked on this tune in many years, but jumped on the challenge when Mike suggested it as it is a fun challenge to catch the harmonies together-- and play the strong trio melody as well!
I've long admired the accordion artistry of Mike Schneider since I first heard his album "Pursuit of Polka's Lost Frontier" in the mid 90s. Unfortunately, we rarely cross paths as he keeps quite busy with his "Pint Size Polkas" performances at libraries throughout the USA. We've been talking about collaborating for a video for awhile so I hope everyone enjoys this little take on "Swissy Missy", a classic polka by Verne Meisner. (Verne originally recorded this tune on "The Verne Meisner Dance Album" and subsequently recorded it with his renowned son, Steve on "Meisner Magic" and "Live-The Way it was Meant to Be")
