It appears that there is potentially an issue with USB-C Power Delivery on at least some Apple silicon based Mac laptops - the M1 MacBook Air and M1 MacBook Pro, with multiple reports of the machines being bricked after using them with certain USB-C hubs and USB-C monitors that feature Power Delivery. My own dead M1 MacBook Air was being used with an Aukey USB-C hub, but many different brands and models have been reported as having been in use when the users' Mac died.
This appears to be happening most frequently at the moment when the power cable is disconnected from the hub while it is connected to the Mac. That is, during the role swap when the MacBook switches from being the sink to the source.
