🚨FIGHTING YOUR PROPERTY TAX?? DON’T MESS UP YOUR PETITION!🫣🥸
This State of Michigan Form is used statewide & you need to fill it out properly! First of all, what are you even protesting? What you decide to protest depends on your specific scenario! For those of you who closed in 2022 you’re going to check off both the assessed value & tentative taxable value boxes because both of those numbers are going to be the exact same for you for 2023. Now for people who have been there for longer than one calendar year you will have a gap between those two numbers so you will only check the assessed value box. You must arrive to your meeting with your own estimate of true cash value. Nobody is going to write that number in that box for you & you have to have an idea of what you believe your property is actually worth & if you have evidence, that better support that number that you’re writing at the front of that petition. If you made an appointment directly with the municipality, then they should have a petition already printed out with all of your property information on it. This is also going to have your tentative 2023 assessed, and taxable values preprinted on it in those boxes on both sides of the box where you’re supposed to write your estimate of true cash value. This is why people get confused when they’re looking at those boxes because if you have one printed from the community then it automatically has those numbers pre-filled in for you, and your job is to simply write your estimate of true cash value in the box between them.
