If you have ever seen any of Roman's older videos on his Shnobel Tone YouTube channel, you've most likely seen him do demos with an older ProCo Rat. In fact, he stated that at one time he had three on his board, each with different settings. The Ratatouille aims to capture that classic Rat sound, but with a totally original circuit.
The Shnobel Tone Ratatouille is not a clone. In fact, it has more in common, circuit-wise, with the Shnobel Tone Daily Driver. So, how did he do it? I can't say but I can assure you that he did make the Ratatouille sound like the Rat, without the annoying quirks of the original pedal.
At higher gain settings, the Ratatouille does not fold in on itself and get weird and fuzzy. It remains heavy, yet articulate. The filter knob, which works in a similar fashion to the original Rat, is far more useable. There is also way more volume on tap, compared to my modern production ProCo Rat 2.
I'll be using my 2017 Vox AC15c1, mic'ed with a Shure SM57.
