In the summer, Bears eat a lot and build up lots of fat. When winter arrives and there is no food available they go into the hibernation mode in their caves. Bears have a heart rate of 40-50 beats per minute. During hibernation, they take 1 breath every 45 seconds and the heart rate drops to 8 beats per minute. Their body temperature drops to as low as 8 degrees Celsius so they don't need much energy to stay alive. In colder regions, Bears can hibernate for 7 months.
Humans can't hibernate because our ancestors were tropical we have migrated to colder regions very recently. Hibernation is suggested for long-duration space trips but in a bear-like hibernation, you would still be aging and constantly using energy to keep the body alive. Another option is to use a generational ship where people are born, reproduce and die until they reach the destination but this method has some ethical concerns.
