It was so good to get off and start hiking here in El Chalten, Argentina. This is one of the few places in South America I have yet to be, so I've been keen to explore this area for a while now. We started out the vlog here in Patagonia by heading to a place a lot of photographers like to refer to as the secret waterfall. Of course, it's not a secret at all. Nearly every photographer who comes to El Chalten shoots it at some point.
We hiked out of town to get to the waterfall for sunrise. It was basically the perfect frame. You get the waterfall tumbling in front of Fitzroy Mountain which looks nothing short of impressive in the sunrise light.
After photographing the waterfall in front of Fitzroy, we push on towards our campsite at the base of Fitzroy.
Of course, nothing can go smoothly. Greg actually completely forgot his Panasonic GH5 battery back at the car. So, he had to make the hike all the way back to El Chalten. Essentially, he had to hike over 25km today.
After setting up camp, I grabbed some lunch and waited for Greg to come back. Once he got back, we set out on a wander out to Piedras Blancas, another one of the great viewpoints in the Fitzroy area here in El Chalten.
We also played around a bit with impressions. I'm sure you've never heard a worse impression that Greg's Christopher Walken impression.
Tomorrow, we continue vlogging here in El Chalten as we make our way through a wind storm to get to Torres Base. Stay tuned for more Patagonia vlogs.
