What we remember constitutes part of who we are, as memory informs much of how we think, feel, and act. So what happens when we no longer remember? Are we still the same person? Or are we just a shell of who we used to be? Although losing someone can be agonising and heartbreaking, grief is a natural part of the human experience. Saying goodbye is something we are made to do all the time. We cannot control nor can we change when we lose someone, but the impression they leave will never evanesce, even if memory fades. Memory is certainly instrumental in the make-up of our identity, but relationships are where we derive a sense of self. In her talk, Mathilda delves into the topic of grief from a philosophical lens, exploring questions of memory, relationships, and identity. Mathilda Gustafsson is an honours student at Amsterdam University College, Class of 2025, studying Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Humanities. She is originally from Sweden, but grew up in Thailand, and then moved to Amsterdam in 2022 to pursue a higher education. Mathilda is passionate about teaching yoga and appropriating mindful practices among people. Reading and writing is also a huge part of exploring her curiosities, allowing Mathilda to express herself and find her own voice. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
