For some strange reason the Tivoli Model One BT is currently available at various stores in South Africa at half the US price. You can buy it brand new for $100. Tivoli has never had a presence in South Africa, but the last few months I noticed that various retailers began offering this radio. Since I first saw a picture of this radio online seven years ago I wanted one. So I am very happy that I could finally buy one, locally, and at half the regular price!
I haven't seen many reviews online of the AM capabilities of this radio. It is true analogue, which is increasingly rare, has precision tuning and has a port for an external AM antenna. In this unboxing video I do a brief FM and AM test, and I am impressed! On FM, the legendary Tivoli sound is just incredible, and sensitivity seems excellent. On AM, I am also impressed, the radio picks up many distant signals. But the real game changer is when you add an external antenna! I did that, and the reception just improves by leaps and bounds. I am looking forward to doing some AM DXing with this one!
Of course, this is not a new radio. It has been around for just over a decade. It is just a radio that I have always wanted, and I have always been curious about its AM capabilities, nobody on YouTube seems to have really tested this radio on AM. I will do so, in future videos! I think many people, like myself, would like to know what this radio can do on AM, but there are very few, if any, AM tests of the Tivoli Model One BT out there.
