Amhrán as Gaeilge a chum mé féin is ea Siobhán. This version was recorded in Beau Street Studios, Waterford in 1988/89. Tommy Hayes (doumbek, Jew's Harp and hand percussion) Mick Kinsella (harmonica), Martin Murray (fiddle) and myself (acoustic guitar and voice) are featured. The tapes were lost for decades and an unmarked DAT copy surfaced in 2021 during a clear-out. I had the contents checked and it turned out to be the lost and very eclectic album: "Positively Beau Street" that I had found. Buried treasure in my hands! Aidan Foley did some restoration and mastered the tracks. Great to have back it again.
I wrote the song Siobhán in the late 1970s. The first time it was recorded (and also lost, never to be found) was in '80s for a project/album/TV show called "Celtic Skies and Songs". Bill Whelan and Donal Lunny produced the various tracks in Aigle Studios, Dublin but the recorded album, to my knowledge, were never released. That original version, which may turn up some day, featured myself alongside Arty McGlynn, Nollaig Casey, Noel Eccles and Donal Lunny to name but a few. What a session to be on! I'd love to hear it again. In the meantime we have this remastered and wonderful Beau Street recording engineered by Martin Murray and produced by Martin and myself. We played live in the studio with incredible energy and enthusiasm when we recorded this one. Take a moment and let the music steal your heart and sweep you off your feet.
