Legendary TV actor James Garner ('The Rockford Files,' 'Maverick') presents the Writers Guild of America West's Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television to writer-producer Stephen J. Cannell at the 2006 Writers Guild Awards.

One of TV's most prolific writers, Cannell scripted 350 episodes of series he himself created, and produced or executive produced more than 1,500 TV episodes during his career. The Emmy and Writers Guild Award-winning writer created or co-created more than 42 shows, including 'The Rockford Files,' 'The Greatest American Hero,' 'The A-Team,' and '21 Jump Street.' He died in September 30, 2010 in Pasadena, California.

The Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement is given to that member of the Guild who, in the opinion of the current Board of Directors, has advanced the literature of television through the years, and who has made outstanding contributions to the profession of the television writer.

The 2006 Writers Guild Awards West Coast ceremony was held at The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on February 4, 2006.
