George Harrison of The Beatles was the first person to play a Rickenbacker electric 12-string on a hit record. When “A Hard Day’s Night” was released as a single, album, and accompanying “rockumentary,” the chiming 12-string was at the forefront and would later inspire a folk-rock movement via Roger McGuinn and The Byrds.
