Russia remains one of the leaders in the global arms market, significantly expanding both the volume of its arms exports and its access to markets the world over during the last two decades. According to the Russian Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation, from 2005 to 2015, Russian arms sales grew from $6 billion to $15.3 billion, an increase of more than 150 percent. However, the last five years have seen a relative decline in the growth rate of arms exports and total volumes have stabilized around $15 billion per year. Sergey Denisentsev will discuss the drivers of the growth in Russia’s arms exports, the causes of the relative stagnation of recent years, and the prospects for the future amidst a rapidly-changing global arms market.
