Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is justifying his government's pandemic deficit spending on the grounds it took on debt so Canadians didn't have to.
Trudeau spoke shortly before Finance Minister Bill Morneau unveils the government's fiscal snapshot in Parliament.

Trudeau says the costs of not providing assistance would have been much higher.
The federal Liberals are to lay out today how they see the COVID-19 pandemic affecting government finances for the fiscal year including an estimated deficit and a projected path for the economy.
