ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Mansions & Music has been PCM's signature performance series for nearly 27 years, featuring talented faculty in architecturally significant homes. As we navigate these uncertain times, PCM has transitioned these performances to a virtual format and renamed them: Musical Interludes - serving as a bridge between pre- and post-Covid-19 performances.
In the first Musical Interlude of the 2020-2021 season and inspired by the story of pianist and Holocaust survivor, Alice Herz-Sommer, PCM faculty have recorded selections from Chopin’s Etudes, as well as pieces that give voice to the Jewish experience. This program was filmed at the Holocaust Museum LA and includes narration by Jane Kaczmarek, commentary by museum staff, and a recitation of the Kaddish by Joseph Alexander, a 97 year old Holocaust survivor. The Chopin Etudes were performed on a piano provided by Steinway & Sons.
