Do you require a certified translation but don’t know how to obtain one?
In this video we will explain:
- What a certified translation is
- What you need a certified translation for
- How to request and obtain a certified translation
First, let's clarify what a certified translation is.
A certified translation is a translation done by an accredited translation company or by a professional translator.
A certified translation includes:
- A certificate of accuracy which attests to the translator's competence to translate between the two languages
- The company’s American Translators Association corporate membership number.
- The signature of the translator and a company representative.
- The date the translation was furnished
- The type of document that was translated
So why do you need a certified translation?
If you are filing a document in the United States and this document is not in English, you need to submit a certified English translation of the document.
U.S. institutions such as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) require documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates and criminal records for visa, Green Card and U.S. citizenship application processes.
U.S. universities also require transcripts, diplomas and letters of recommendation to be translated into English for the admissions process, scholarship applications and accreditation of studies completed in other countries.
Now that you know what a certified translation is, we’ll discuss how you can request and obtain yours.
Most importantly, you do not need to send the documents anywhere physically to obtain a certified translation.
You simply need to take photos of each page with your cell phone. It is important that the photos are clear and in-focus. You can also scan the documents if you have a desktop scanner.
To request a certified translation, go to the U.S. Language Services website at [ Ссылка ], select the language the document is in, upload the document to be translated and indicate the number of pages.
Each page may contain up to 250 words. If a document contains 500 words it is equivalent to 2 pages or if it contains 750 words it is equivalent to 3 pages.
You can pay by credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or PayPal.
If you prefer, you can get a quote in advance by emailing your document to info@uslanguageservices.com or filling out the form on the website.
The certified translation of a generic document takes 2 to 3 business days. We also offer expedited services if you need your certified translation sooner. Simply indicate this when requesting a quote.
Once completed, you will receive your certified translation in PDF format in your email. You can submit this document directly or print it if you need a hard copy.
