If I tell you "World War I", you immediately think of poilus wading in muddy trenches, crushed by shells, Verdun, Tannenberg, broken faces, in short, everything that happened between 1914 and 1918 in Europe and in the colonies to end up with the disastrous toll of 18 million dead. And yet, it is not this war that I am going to talk to you about today but another one, older, much less known but which probably is the real first world war in the sense that the fights took place all over the world, involving all kinds of peoples and which had very important consequences for the following centuries.
Come on, let's go back 250 years to the 18th century, when the king of France is called Louis XV.
