In the last second of regular time, with the score 87-87, Budivelnyk forward Alexander Volkov made a 3-point shot, but the ball went in after the buzzer. The referee ultimately did not count the ball, overtime followed and Zalgiris won 98-93. After the match, the Kiev team filed a protest with the USSR State Sports Committee and did not participate in game 3 of the series. Subsequently, a meeting of the USSR Basketball Federation was held and a majority vote decided to count Volkov’s shot and approve the result of game 2 (90-87) in favour of Budivelnyk.
