"Benedetto Giacomo Marcello lived from 1686 to 1739.
His collection of settings of the first fifty Psalms, Estro poetico-armonico, was published between 1724 and 1726.

Marcello was a younger contemporary of Vivaldi and they were both born in Venice, Italy.

Marcello's Psalm 19 was originally set for Alto, Tenor, Two Basses and Basso Continuo.

The words in Estro poetico-armonico are poetic paraphrases of the biblical texts in Italian by Marcello's friend and colleague Girolamo Ascanio Giustiniani (1677-1732). Charles Avison and John Garth published an edition with English words in 1757.

This is a live performance on The Great Organs of First Congregational Church, Los Angeles, during the weekly Prelude Organ Concert on May 9, 2021.
