Join John as he explores the reference that introduced the visual characteristics that would make the Rolex Daytona an enduring icon.
Introduced in 1963, the Daytona Ref. 6239 was the first Rolex chronograph to bear the “Cosmograph” name. It was also the first model to introduce design elements that we now associate with the Daytona: inverse colors for the chronograph counters, and an external tachymetre scale. This basic design carries forward to today!
As one of the most sought-after watches on the market today, the Rolex Daytona has achieved legendary status in the world of watches. This example dates to 1970, which was the last year of production for the 6239. This vintage model is in excellent condition and includes its original “C&I” Oyster Rivet bracelet dated 7-70 and the original box, manual, and service papers from 1973.
