A May, 2020 walk around of the last remaining piece of the first enclosed mall in the Dayton, Ohio area; the Salem Mall. The mall closed in 2005 and demolished in 2006 except for the Sears. The Sears stayed in business until January of 2014 after opening with the mall in 1966. You can clearly see where the mall connected to the Sears building along with the brick style flooring inside the mall.
The city of Trotwood purchased the Sears building from an investment firm in 2019 with the hopes of demolishing it and turning the former mall site into a mixed use area which the city so desperately needs. As of late 2020, the Sears still stands and no signs of development are to be seen. How much longer will this retro, mid-century abandoned Sears be around?
