The Limerick Harriers arranged the Meet which took place on Sunday the 16th December 2018. The meeting point was the Cat’s Cradle Pub near Ballyneety in County Limerick.
The horses and ponies were unloaded from horse box trailers and trucks in the car park beside the pub.
The day was dry and bright.
The terrain is sloping grassland fields with boundaries that comprise earth banks and open drains. The banks are topped with hedgerows and trees. The grass land is used for dairy farming and beef production.
The riders were mainly farmers and their children. There were 23 hounds in the pack.
The joint masters are John McNamara, Pat Bermingham, Sean O’Donovan and Michael Mullane.
The huntsman is Padraic Behan
The whippers-in are Gerry Murphy, Garry McCarthy and Dessie Lenihan.
The fence repair crew are Michael McNamara and John O’Donovan.
Hunting takes place on private land and depends on farmer’s generosity and goodwill.
The hunting season is in the winter during the months of November, December, January and February, when livestock are in farmyards and there aren’t any crops in the fields.
