"Cooky Puss" is the very first hip hop recording and debut single of the Beastie Boys, released in 1983 on Rat Cage Records. It marks the first appearance of Adam Horovitz in the band and the last appearance of drummer Kate Schellenbach. The song's title, lyrics, and samples satirize the Cookie Puss ice cream dessert.
The single contains four tracks, including the title track, which samples Steve Martin's "My Real Name" and includes snippets of prank calls to a local Carvel retailer by the band. These tracks, along with the entire Polly Wog Stew EP, appear on the compilation album Some Old Bullshit.
Interestingly, British Airways used a portion of the Beastie Boys' song "Beastie Revolution" in a TV ad without their permission. This led to the band suing the airline and winning $40,000 in damages, which they used to rent an apartment at 59 Chrystie Street in Chinatown, New York. This place became the band's living, rehearsing, and recording space, and was referenced in their song "59 Chrystie Street" on the 1989 album Paul's Boutique.
