Steroid injections for arthritic joints were first used more than 50 years ago, and are commonly used by physicians to reduce knee pain.
What exactly is a cortisone injection: It’s typically a cocktail of 2 medications, an anesthetic called lidocaine and the other is the steroid.
How does it work?
Knee Arthritis is essentially a wearing of the cartilage – But – another major contributing factor to knee arthritis pain is inflammation in the knee.
Steroid injection reduces the inflammation in the knee and thereby reduces knee pain and increases ROM.
